Encyclopedia icon.svg Wikiafripedia is an encyclopedia
Our encyclopedia combines many features of general and specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, and gazetteers. And a special section dedicated to scholars original research.

Wikiafripedia is not a soapbox, an advertising platform, a vanity press, an experiment in anarchy or democracy, an indiscriminate collection of information, or a web directory. It is not a dictionary, a newspaper, or a collection of source documents, but some of Wikimedia projects are.

Scale icon green.svg Wikiafripedia is written from a neutral point of view
We strive for articles in an impartial tone that document and explain major points of views, giving due weight with respect to their prominence. We avoid advocacy, and we characterize information and issues rather than debate them. In some areas there may be just one well-recognized point of view; in others, we describe multiple points of view, presenting each accurately and in context rather than as "the truth" or "the best view".

All articles especially those in the encyclopedia main namespace must strive for verifiable accuracy, citing reliable, authoritative sources, especially when the topic is controversial or is on living persons. Editors' personal experiences, interpretations, or opinions do not belong.

Unlike most paper encyclopedias, Wikiafripedia is not written nor reviewed by experts or scholars in the subject area. Anyone can edit Wikiafripedia anytime; users can contribute anonymously, under a pseudonym, or, if they choose to, with their real identity. What is contributed is more important than the expertise or qualifications of the contributor. What will remain depends upon whether the content is free of copyright restrictions and contentious material about living people, and whether it fits within Wikiafripedia's policies, including being verifiable against a published reliable source, thereby excluding editors' opinions and beliefs and unreviewed research where they're not in the original research namespace.

The Wikiafripedia community has developed many policies and guidelines to improve the afripedia; however, it is not a formal requirement to be familiar with them before contributing as contributions cannot damage Wikiafripedia because the software allows easy reversal of mistakes and many experienced editors are watching to help ensure that edits are cumulative improvements. Begin by simply clicking the Edit link at the top of any editable page!

Should conflicts arise, discuss them calmly on the appropriate talk pages, follow dispute resolution procedures, and consider that there are 32,869 other articles on the English Wikiafripedia to improve and discuss.

Since all editors freely license their work to the public, no editor owns an article and any contributions can and will be mercilessly edited and redistributed. Respect copyright laws, and never plagiarize from any sources. Borrowing non-free media is sometimes allowed as fair use, but strive to find free alternatives first.

And do not agonize over making mistakes: (almost) every past version of a page is saved, so mistakes can be easily corrected.
